Throughout my time in school, I've been encouraged to enroll in traditional art courses, such as Painting, Drawing, and Foundation Design 2D & 3D. Below, I've showcased the pieces of which I am most proud. They range from monochromatic paintings to detailed pen and ink pieces, but I always enjoy stepping back from computer software to appreciate the natural texture and imperfections that come along with traditional art materials.

Architectural Drawing
Graphite, Pen, and Ink
This is a piece I completed in Foundation Drawing I, where we learned to draw from life and add realism to our pieces. Our assignment was to focus on a two-point perspective utilizing a building on campus.
This was the first building I drew that was not based on an image, so working in a "plein air" environment and the difficulties that presented themselves was exciting. I fell in love with the cleanliness with which I created this scene, and it was exhilarating to see something so meticulously curated come to life.

Hands Compilation
Graphite, Pen, and Ink
I completed this project in Foundation Drawing I, where one of our assignments was to draw fifty hands. I've compiled some of my favorite pairs of hands that I drew for this assignment. Throughout the semester and this assignment, I noticed my form progressing as I grew more confident with my skills. It was interesting to compare some of my hand studies from the beginning of the project to the end.

Shape Project
Pen and Ink
This was an assignment I completed for Foundation Design 2D, where we learned about the fundamental elements of design, such as point, line, shape, value, texture, and color. This is my project exploring the element of shape. We were assigned to create one piece that showcased geometric shapes and another that showcased organic shapes.
For the theme for my assignment, I wanted to play on the word "organic." When many think of "organic," we think of trees, life, and plants. I thought it would be interesting to have two pieces with an organic theme but only one composed of geometric shapes. For both pieces, I used varying widths of pens to create dimension and dashed lines on the organically shaped piece to add value and texture. During this assignment, I learned the value of shapes and the different meanings that they can contribute to a piece.

Charcoal
For this assignment, we explored the use of charcoal while completing a portrait. I completed this portrait from a reference picture, and it was interesting to note the differences between using a reference picture and a live model. This was also my first time using charcoal, and I enjoyed seeing the different values that I could obtain while using this medium.

Graphite
This portrait was from a live model and done in graphite. This was my first time drawing from a live model instead of a reference picture, and it was interesting to note some differences. Although I had to work with slightly changing model positions, I enjoyed this portrait more than the portraits I completed earlier using a reference picture.
