This project began as a school assignment for Visual Communications, where we learned about the different ways that design and art can be utilized to communicate with a wide variety of viewers. Simultaneously, I was honored to be chosen by the graphic design faculty to participate in the 2024 Emerging Artists Exhibition, where each department in the School of Art, Design, and Creative Industries selects up to three students to showcase their work.
For this exhibit, I expanded on one of my current design projects to create a series of three album covers that reflect key moments from my personal life. Each cover is a deeply personal exploration, utilizing unique, custom typography to convey the emotional and thematic essence of the music and my experiences.
The project started with a focus on typography, aiming to capture the feelings evoked by the music and the messages conveyed by the artists. I infused each cover with elements from my life, drawing on personal memories and experiences to deepen the connection between the visual design and the music. Using a continuous color scheme across all three pieces, I aimed to represent the transformation and growth of a single individual—myself—through different stages of life, each influenced by the corresponding music.

I'll Fly Away: This cover pays homage to my upbringing and the traditional aesthetics of my religious background, blending the beauty of stained glass with the song’s uplifting message.
My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade: This cover captures a turbulent period of self-discovery and change during my adolescence. The split design symbolizes the internal conflict and the journey towards finding my identity.
Tame Impala: This cover represents my current self, embracing change and learning from my surroundings at Wichita State. The design reflects the influence of nature and the artist's thematic focus on transformation.

This project allowed me to blend academic objectives with personal storytelling, resulting in a series of album covers that are not only visually compelling but also deeply meaningful. Each piece is a testament to how design can be a powerful medium for personal expression.
