This project was an assignment I completed in Visual Communications, where we learned about design principles. Our assignment was to choose an art style and replicate the key features of that style through the use of a self-portrait in an exhibition poster for an art museum.

My assigned art style was fauvism, so I looked at Matisse as an inspiration and noticed chunky brushwork and highly contrasting pigments. I created this piece mainly in Procreate to give it an authentic, hand-drawn look. In this piece, I also utilized hierarchy, and I conveyed this hierarchy using different fonts, colors, and font sizes. I learned a lot from this project as it forced me to dig deeper into different art styles and their design qualities.
